 23 children injured in a KZN taxi crash

Durban – Approximately 23 children were injured after their minibus taxi crashed into a ditch off Longacres Road in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics reaching on the scene and found the taxi parked in a ditch on the side of the street.

“many children were found either seated in the vehicle or found walking around on the scene,” Meiring said.

Meiring said the children were aged between five and nine and had sustained minor and moderate injuries.

The children were treated and transported to various hospitals.

“The driver later told paramedics that the brakes had apparently failed, causing him to lose control of the taxi and crash into the ditch,” he said.

In other separate incidents in KZN, 15 people have been injured after a taxi and a car collided on Sydney Road near Hannah Road just after 06:00 on Tuesday morning, while 10 people have been injured following an accident involving a taxi and a bakkie on Fannin Road in Wyebank, Pinetown.
